BIO-MECHANICAL ASSESSMENT

RESOLVE CHRONIC PAIN

Our feet support us throughout life, enabling us to stand, walk, run, and jump and are constantly subjected to all the stresses these activities impose on them. Added to the fact that we spend most of our time on hard, unnatural, unyielding surfaces, only complicates the problems.

Problems in our foot function are mechanically compensated for by the body, but these often lead to subtle changes in the way we walk (gait) and do cause a chain reaction within the limb through the knee to the hips and spine. This misalignment in the body (biomechanical dysfunction) can cause many of the common complaints associated with foot, leg, knee, and back pain, such as:

  • Bunions and corns

  • Plantar Fasciitis

  • Metatarsalgia

  • Achilles Tendonitis

  • Shin Splints

  • Knee Pain

  • Hip Pain

  • Lower Back Pain

What are Orthotics?

We can’t change the ground we walk on, we can’t change the shape of our feet, but we can use an Orthotic device to interface between the two. This interface corrects many of the foot pathologies, as can be seen below.

Professional Orthotics are CE Marked Medical Devices and should be fitted by a Chiropodist / Podiatrist. At Parks Therapy Centre we have chosen to supply and fit ICB medical orthotics. These devices can be specifically hot moulded to re-align, correct, and support your feet. This in turn will help optimise your gait performance and/or prevent long term injury.

What does a Physical Assessment entail?

At Parks Therapy Centre our chiropodist/podiatrist will conduct a biomechanical and gait assessment to identify the underlying cause, not just the symptoms, of your pain and/or injury. This will include an assessment of the feet, legs, and hips at rest and dynamically on a treadmill. The results will be explained throughout the whole process. Should you require Orthotics these will be made to your exact requirements at the end of the session.

*Please note these assessments are only offered at our St Neots clinic

Pre-Requirements

Patients are requested to wear clothes above the knee, shorts are ideal and a close-fitting top to enable us to see your whole musculoskeletal system in operation. Many of the static measurements are very hands-on involving feet, knees, and hips.
